YouTube has a reputation of being a place of pure fun and leisure. A sanctuary of relaxation and cat videos. However, YouTube can also be a place of fun education - with variying degrees of seriousness! In this article I will present you, dear reader, with a selection of the, in my opinion, best channels for learning.

Science in general

From the smallest organisms to the largest entities in the Universe. Science has it all.

It’s Okay To Be Smart
The host, PhD Joe Hanson, has a unique way of combining science education with dad jokes. His science universe has no limits, he informs about all sorts of science matters. The topics of his videos often originate from his own questions about the universe. Question that you’d probably also have pondered yourself. Joe Hanson will enlighten you in a entertaining way that would make you wish you had him as a science teacher!

Kurzgesagt
The first thing you notice about Kurzgesagt is its remarkable animation. Armed with their unique animations they deal with often very complex topics. In addition, Kurzgesagt is a bit more serious than Joe Hanson, but the lacking jokes are redeemed by the stunning and educational animations.

Biology

Have you ever wondered how the smallest creatures on Earth live their lives? They lead surprisingly interesting lives as you’re about to find about!

Deep Look
This channel investigates a often, with good reason, overlooked world, a world that can only be seen with a magnifying class.
A calm, charming voice guides you as you zoom into the wonders of biology up-close. Perhaps you have already seen the subject of interest in the particular video, like the tongue of a cat. Who hasn’t seen the tongue of a cat? If you have, you have probably also feelt the roughness of its tongue. Why that it, and a multitude of other questions, are answered in Deep Look’s videos.

Journey to the Microcosmos
The subjects of Deep Look are quite small, but livings things can get even smaller in the shape of bacteria and other one-celled organisms. This channel gives you insights into a perhaps even more obscure world than the one…
